In 2018, a 34-year-old Chinese man called Mr He attempted to deceive his insurance company by staging his own death

He drove his car into a river, hoping to secure a payout of roughly $145,000 for his wife. 


Tragically, his wife, unaware of his plan, thought he had died. In her grief, she drowned their two children and then committed su*cide. 

The man eventually turned himself in to the police, explaining that he had been driven to this desperate act by the overwhelming debts he had incurred due to his daughter's epilepsy treatment.
